Behind the Mask: US Virgin Islands Festivals Division ft. Sanctuary Festival Troupe

I'd want to extend a special thank you to all festival artists and troupe organizers; without troupe organizers, bands, costume designers, and festival committee personnel, our fete experiences would be lost. I would like to invite all feters to reflect on the origins of revelry. The festival arts are founded on storytelling and counter-narratives of people who have persecuted a major portion of the Caribbean diaspora and the Virgin Islands. However, subjugation resulted in the emergence of a new culture infused with elements of both African and European culture. It is a time of celebration. A salute to our uniqueness. Additionally, I would want to express my gratitude to Netafa Romain, a storyteller from the Virgin Islands and an uplifter of our diasporic tales. Netafa transitioned last year. May we walk in his light in the future. Sanctuary Festival Troupe has only recently been in the Crucian Christmas Festival Parade for the 2019-2020 season, but even with just one appearance in partnership with Orobourous Troupe and West End masqueraders, the collaboration has been extremely powerful. I cannot express my gratitude to everyone who has inquired about the troupe's initiatives and how the new costumes might look. Sanctuary serves as a link between contemporary and traditional festival experiences. I'd want to express my gratitude to the Division of Virgin Islands Festival for providing us with this opportunity to share our experience, and I'm looking forward to seeing the interviews with the other troupes as well.
