They squared off against Mt Vernon's frontline of Troy Cross, Derek Shelton, and Tony Long, who combined for 59 of the team's 63 points earlier in the day. Richmond took control in the first quarter when Austin caught fire in the first quarter hitting his first five shots. Down by as much as 11 in the second quarter, the Marauders responded and closed the lead to 3 at halftime, 36-33, as Long scored 10 of his 14 points in the period. The score seesawed back and forth in the third quarter as neither team led by more than one point, and Richmond held a one point advantage at the end of the quarter (48-47). The Red Devils pushed the lead up to as much as nine points (60-51) in the fourth period before the Marauders responded to close within four points (67-63) with 2:30 left in the quarter. The Red Devils, though, finished the game on a 10-4 run to win, 77-67, and advance to the Final Four at Market Square Arena.
