64 South Korean scam suspects repatriated from Cambodia

All were taken into custody upon their arrival at Incheon Airport. Their repatriation followed Seoul’s dispatch of a team to Cambodia to discuss cases of fake jobs and scam centres involved in kidnapping dozens of South Koreans. The head of the National Office of Investigation, Park Sung-joo, said the South Koreans were implicated in various crimes linked to voice phishing, romance scams and so-called no-show fraud schemes. The case came to light after the death of a South Korean college student in Cambodia. He reportedly had been kidnapped and tortured by a crime ring and was found dead in a pickup truck on August 8.
