A trip in the Nepal’s mid-western north part. Shey-Phoksumdo(Phoksundo) National Park trek is one of the outstanding moderate natures trekking trail to the stunning Shey-Phoksumdo Lake at elevation of 3600m. Explore the shores of Phoksundo Lake in Ringmo, a village established on the 40,000 year old landslide / natural dam that created the lake. The lake is almost 500' deep and must be seen in person to appreciate the magnificent color of the water. We take a rest day here and visit the 900 year old Thashung Gompa on the eastern side of the lake. For those with an interest in Tibetan culture, Dolpo is as Tibetan as it gets. Isolated and governed by Nepal, Dolpo is "more Tibetan than Tibet" in 2015. Report: We travelled during end of winter last year 2019. We just tried to travel by surface through Surkhet-Jajarkot-Rukum Road which leads to Dunai: head quarter of dolpa district. Road passes through Bheri River and Road is not connected well. We travelled somewhere by walk while crossing the suspension bridge and by taking local vehicle. Here is our normal schedule for this journey. Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Radi Rukum by night bus. It takes 25 hours. Day 02: Second day: we reached in Rukum, Radi Bazaar in the late evening. Day 03: We took a local bus to Tallo Bagar and next change the jeep for Tribeni and next change jeep to Khadang then we cross the bridge and stay overnight at Khadang. Day 04: We took a jeep to near Tripurakot. And we walked 30 minutes then catched another jeep for Suligad. And trek to Chhepka. It was a bit hard to trek. It is better to stay in Kageni. From suligad road leads to dunai and Left trekking trail leads to Phoksumdo Lake. Day 05: We walked for Shey phoksumdo(Ringmogaon) it was a bit tough to reach within day. It’s better to travel up to Jharna hotel. Day 06 & 07: We spent time 3 days in Ringmogoan and lake surrounding, we make hiking round Phoksumdo Lake as well. And specially our objective to catch beauty of dolpa. Day 08: Back to Juphal. Day 09: Flight to Nepalgunj and same day drive to Kathmandu. Day 10: Arrival in Kathmandu. With purpose of field study we enjoyed lots during the trek. In our experience to travel through surface (Jajarkot) It is a bit difficult in a sense road condition and lack of local vehicle as well and lack proper road connection. So We recommend, travel would more comfortable through nepalgunj to juphal flight. But flight need to book earlier during peak season. Finally to travel through jajarkot is not comfortable It takes time to connect road properly. We have planned travel through Nepal to Juphal flight. Or same day can take connection flight as well as night bus to Kathmandu or your final destination.
