In this first video of my Persuasion character deep dive series, we meet the baronet himself — a man whose mirrors, lineage, and ego leave little room for anyone else. Sir Walter Elliot may not be the hero of Austen’s novel, but his vanity shapes the stage on which Anne’s quiet strength is revealed. We’ll explore his obsession with status and appearance, his treatment of Anne and others, and how Austen crafted him as both comic figure and cautionary tale. Along the way, we’ll see why his character matters more than many readers — and some adaptations — give him credit for.
