The Midwest Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), based in Schaumburg, Illinois, is a vibrant youth-community ensemble celebrated for its compelling performances at prestigious venues such as Chicago’s Symphony Center and New York’s Carnegie Hall. Under the direction of its founder and Music Director, Taka Matsunaga, the orchestra has earned national recognition, including a bronze award in the American Prize for community orchestras. On May 24th, 2025, MPO presented its highly anticipated spring concert, continuing its tradition of excellence and adventurous programming. The concert featured two masterful works by Antonín Dvořák: My Home, Op. 62 and Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Op. 88. Both pieces showcased the orchestra’s expressive depth and vibrant energy, bringing to life Dvořák’s rich Bohemian spirit and lyrical themes. Maestro Matsunaga—a seasoned conductor, violinist, and Assistant Professor at Elmhurst University—infused the performance with deep musical insight, shaped by his rich orchestral background and collaborations with world-renowned conductors. Since founding the orchestra in 2007, he has led MPO on international tours and continually inspired young musicians to pursue artistry and discipline. The May concert stood as another unforgettable milestone in the orchestra’s dynamic journey.
