This is the inspiring story of Ms Leena Pawar as told by her son, Melwyn Pawar. “It started in the early 80s when she slipped at a railway station and injured her knee. One surgery followed another, but she never stopped working. Even with swollen knees and burning joints, she’d travel 45 minutes to her ad agency job in Mumbai, come home, cook, and still smile like everything was fine. By her 30s, she’d already gone through three surgeries - one knee operation and two C-sections. She had skin infections during both deliveries, glucose drips that caused massive weight gain, and constant pain that never really left her side. By 2000, the pain became unbearable. She had to quit her job and underwent another knee surgery, but that one failed. She was bedridden for months, and her weight shot up to 105 kilos. Yet she started a small tiffin business from her bed to keep the house running. Years passed, and her body kept giving up on her - spine issues, compressed nerves, another knee replacement, and unbearable pain. I remember lifting her in my arms to take her to the doctor because she couldn’t sit in a car or fit in a wheelchair By 2019, she weighed 125 kilos. She couldn’t stand on a weighing scale, let alone walk. That’s when I decided to take things into my own hands. I started reading about fitness, nutrition, and how to actually help her heal and not just survive. But before we could celebrate any progress, another problem hit. She started bleeding again years after menopause. Doctors found her uterine wall had thickened and said she’d need surgery. But first, she had to lose weight. So we did it together. Day after day, I measured her food, tracked her progress, and helped her move again. She dropped from 125 kilos to 117 and then 90. But life wasn’t done testing her. In 2022, doctors detected uterine tumor. After recovering from Covid, she underwent her eighth surgery, the uterus removal. Even then, she smiled through the pain. Even then, she told me, “It’s okay, Melwyn. I’ll be fine.” And she meant it. In 2025, she had another spine surgery, her ninth in total. Her haemoglobin had dropped to 4, she was anaemic and weak. That’s when I got her a Fittr HART ring and started tracking everything - her heart rate, sleep, steps, and recovery. I switched her to a vegetarian diet since her body couldn’t handle non-veg anymore. I measured every ingredient, added protein shakes to preserve her muscle, and cooked every single meal with intention. And slowly, I watched her come back to life. Her posture improved. Her sleep got better. Her smile got brighter. By May 2025, her weight dropped to 76 kilos. Today, she’s 69 kilos, almost 70 years old, and walking again. 9 surgeries, 40 years of pain, but not once did she give up. Today her weight is 69 kilos. She is now almost 70 years old. Her skin has improved, now she can walk better, her sleep has improved, and her posture has also gotten better, which has reduced the pressure on her knee and spine. My mom is the true definition of ‘Never Give Up’ and I am super proud of her”
