In Vihiga County, Western Kenya, we’ve been working alongside mothers and girls on self-care and respectful maternity care. Through community conversations and trainings, women are learning how to prepare for birth, care for their newborns, ask questions at the clinic, and know their rights when seeking care. When we returned to reflect with community champion Getrude Muyeshi on what this work has meant, we saw small but important shifts in how women are showing up for their health. More women are going to clinics prepared, speaking up, and seeing self-care as part of caring for their families. This video shares what community-led change looks like on the ground and why these everyday shifts matter for women’s health and dignity. This work is part of the community engagement by White Ribbon Alliance Kenya in Vihiga County.
