In this absurdly long but (hopefully) fabulous video, posted in 1080p Premium HD with Enhanced Bitrate, we complete our scratch build project of adding spring reverb to the venerable Fender Vibro-Champ amplifier. Every step and thought process is explained along the way, including some major modifications of the initially-planned reverb circuit. We will hear a detailed comparison of 12AX7 vs 12DW7 reverb driver/recovery tubes, followed up by an extensive audio demo of the amp with all possible combinations of both reverb, tremolo, and clean tones. At the end there is a very brief review of the Custom Silverface Vibro-Champ Reverb offered by Fender. Yes, they really did build one......sort of. NOTES: 1.) I did not experiment with a 6L6 output tube in the video simply because it would stress the 5W output transformer, and to be honest, I tried it and it didn't sound any different than the 6V6. With a higher-current PT and OPT, and an optimally biased 6L6GC, however, the difference would probably be significant......but that's a project for another day. 2.) Due to the extensive use of shielded cable and careful layout design, the amp was absolutely free of any hum or background noise. I was also impressed by the wonderful clean tone produced by the VC circuit. 3.) Here is the link to the final, optimized reverb circuit schematic used in this amp: https://app.box.com/s/br8kco1h15k0hj6... 4.) I used a new editing program for this video that offers better resolution and audio quality. Let me know if you can see or hear any improvement. Thanks !!
