Java Jive

Jiva Jive. I first heard this as a teenager by the Manhatten Transfer. Loved it then, love it now. To ensure the continuation of my video project, consider becoming a patron. Just go to   / donmitchell  . As far as I can find it was written in 1940 by Ben Oakland and Milton Drake and first recorded by the Four King Sisters, then later that year by the Ink Spots. My guitar accompaniment is very simple made up of mostly three note chords, sometimes called shell chords (root, 3rd and 7th). The focus is definately on the vocal here and the whimsical lyrics. The phrase, "I love coffe, I love tea," is traced back to the late 1800s as a chant for jump ropers. The opening coffee cup shot was filmed with my iPhone mounted on a small tripod as was the close up cross faded cut in the middle of the song. I wanted to create a kind of 40s B movie vibe in a diner, so the coffee cup is a plain white mug on my kitchen counter which in real life is quartz, but in the video looks like linoleum. And to complete the period look I wore a white shirt, black suspenders and my black porkpie hat.
