THE AFTERMATH AND A PERSONAL STORY. This is not my typical travel adventure video. It’s much about why I chase adventures, interesting places, and try to enjoy every single day I have. It’s hard to believe, and grasp, that it’s been almost two decades, since an F3 tornado ripped through the Southside of Indianapolis. It possessed 160 mile an hour winds, that blew a trail of destruction 112 miles. It was the 2nd longest tornado trail in Indiana History. Galyans Sporting Goods, Pier One Imports, Shoe Carnival, Baxter YMCA and the White River Township Fire Department were all destroyed in minutes. And about all that I loved, was nearly taken away from me. CAN YOU REMEMBER WHERE YOU WERE? I was in San Antonio, Texas for a job interview, it was sunny. My wife called me from our home on Main Street, in Greenwood, just a few blocks from Meijer. She said the sky was green and there was a tornado warning: she was taking cover in the central hall way, with our 3 month old son. Our 2 year old little girl was safe with her grandparents, at Columbus. I could hear our TV over the phone, going crazy with tornado warnings, and I couldn’t do a thing to protect them. I felt completely helpless, and my flight would be many hours before departure. To my relief, the danger passed quickly, and she told me when the winds had calmed down. I couldn’t wait to just get home to my family. My flight flew first to the Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport, where fellow travelers to Indianapolis, talking to relatives at home, said that Galyans was gone, and kayaks were all over the parking lot. The next day, I took my trusty Hi8 camera to film the devastation. It was massive, and looked like a war zone. And even more scary: the tornado had been headed directly for my house, my wife, and 3 month old. And it suddenly turned. Since then, I count my blessings. No one is promised tomorrow. Tell people that you love them. And make every day a wonderful adventure!
