SOUTHEAST TEXAS- by Haley Bull A man behind bars Tyler county began committing crimes more than 15 years ago. The link between many of them, PCP, the drug first began making headlines in the 1950's and 60's. It's making a comeback, according to our investigation. This week we've brought you stories about the impact on a former user and dealer and the increase one judge is seeing in violent crimes linked to PCP. A prisoner in jail after more than a decade of using the drug is speaking out. "I can't give you a number," Makeba Chatman said, "But I've been to jail a lot of times." This time, the Tyler County Justice Center is 36-year old's reality after nearly two decades of using and selling the hallucinogenic drug PCP. "The more i started using pcp the more i started seeing myself slip and fall," Chatman said. He said he started smoking marijuana dipped in pcp when he was just 17 years old and quickly became addicted. Before long, he was smoking cigarettes dipped in the drug several times a day. "I was smoking it just about as much as they drink beer," Chatman said. The drug led to anger, sometimes aggression and a lengthy criminal record. "You know had run ins with police officers it makes you, I was aggressive with them you know it was just embarrassing for sure," Chatman said. According to Public Data, Chatman's criminal record includes three DWI's, resisting arrest and burglary.%
