Arlie Macdonald PhD Student, University of Tasmania ABSTRACT Understanding how the genomes of organisms shape their phenotypes is one of the core pursuits of biology. The growing abundance of fully sequenced genomes has been expected to revolutionise our understanding of this genotype to phenotype map. However, a mountain of genomic data alone will not reveal this complex relationship, and rigorous statistical approaches are required to identify the insights offered by large-scale genomic data. One such approach is known as PhyloG2P (phylogenetic genotype to phenotype), which focuses on the replicated evolution of phenotypes. PhyloG2P methods use phylogenetic comparative methods to identify independent evolutionary transitions to new phenotypes and then associates these transitions with genomic changes. In this webinar, we will cover the basic principles of replicated evolution and PhyloG2P analysis, with examples of how PhyloG2P methods may be utilised in our research across the Centre. This seminar was recorded as part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Plant Success in Nature and Agriculture webinar series.
