Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 came out earlier this year, and it completely pulled me in. It’s one of the most immersive historical games I’ve ever played. The developers didn’t just build a fantasy world — they recreated medieval Bohemia using real archaeological findings, historical sources, and detailed landscapes based on actual locations. That level of accuracy made me wonder how close is the game to real life and so I travelled to the Czech Republic to visit the real places featured in the game and explore the history behind them. The game takes place in the early 15th century, during a turbulent period in Bohemian history. King Wenceslas IV, known for his weak leadership, was struggling to maintain control of the kingdom. His half-brother, Sigismund of Hungary, seized the opportunity to invade, sparking a violent power struggle. At the same time, religious tensions were rising. A Czech priest named Jan Hus began calling for reform within the Catholic Church, preaching against corruption and pushing for services in the Czech language. After Hus was executed for heresy in 1415, his followers — known as the Hussites — rose up in rebellion. What followed was a series of brutal wars that would reshape Central Europe, led by legendary figures like Jan Žižka, one of history’s most brilliant military commanders.
