What are NATO Allies doing about terrorism? Exercise Flintlock23 wrapped up this week with nearly 30 nations, to include 10 @NATO Special Operations Forces. For the past 2 weeks #NATO SOF worked closely with African nations to improve interoperability, counter violent extremism & collectively address security threats. FLINTLOCK 2023 is a US Special Operations Command Africa exercise with 14 NATO Allies and one NATO partner designed around the concept of interoperability between military and civilian organisations to eliminate terrorist safe havens in northwest Africa by strengthening countries’ counterterrorism capabilities and inhibiting the spread of extremist ideology. Flintlock 2023 is scheduled to be conducted March 1-15, 2023, in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. The exercise includes approximately 1,300 personnel from 28 nations from NATO Allies and Partners, African Union and other nations. #SpecialForces #SOFAllied #Flintlock23 Command Operations (ACO), NATO's headquarters for all military plans and operations, is the successor to two historic strategic commands for NATO – Allied Command Europe and Allied Command Atlantic. ACO is one of The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's (NATO) two strategic military commands. The other command being Allied Command Transformation ACT in Norfolk, Virginia. ACO is commanded by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and is responsible for all Alliance military operations. The command headquarters, known as Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, or SHAPE, is located in Casteau near Mons, Belgium. The mission of ACO and the SACEUR is to contribute to preserving the peace, security and territorial integrity of NATO member nations in its area of responsibility.
