Orleans (Florida) Ghost Town and Cemetery in Withlacoochee State Forest

Orleans was a small town that was settled in 1885 by Reverend Young as a farming and citrus community in Citrus County in the 1800's. There was a railroad station nearby. The population in 1887 was 60 and in 1895, it was 100. The town was probably wiped out during the freeze of 1895 which destroyed many crops. Influenza was also an issue during those days and may have also contributed. There isn't much left of the town today but the cemetery is a nice reminder of the past here. Today the area is part of Withlacoochee State Forest and Citrus Wildlife Management Area.
