On 6 August 2024, exactly fifty years to the day since the Joint Sitting of 1974, the Whitlam Institute hosted a Symposium titled “Historic, Unprecedented, Sobering”: The Double Dissolution and Joint Sitting of 1974. In Session 1, we launch the Whitlam legacy paper ‘The Election That Never Was’ The 1974 Double Dissolution, Gough Whitlam’s Second Election Victory’.
