S. Katie Noelker, Interim Director, is conducting the Eastern Kentucky University Symphony Orchestra in Concert during their Classics III concert in May of 2021. S. Katie Noelker is a Conductor, Music Educator, and Pianist from Central Kentucky. After receiving her Master's Degree in Orchestral Conducting, she was asked to serve as Interim Orchestra Director at Eastern Kentucky University, where she led through the 2020-2021 season before moving to the Oklahoma City Metro Area. Katie has served as Director and Conductor of the Heritage Area String Program Youth Orchestra in Central Kentucky and was Assistant Director before that appointment. Katie has taught as Faculty at Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp for two summers, serving as Middle and High School Orchestra Conductor for the latter season, and assistant conductor for the season prior, and as the conductor for the Fall 2020 season at Model Laboratory Schools, a K-12 appointment while the regular director was on leave. Katie has appeared as a guest conductor with the Richmond POPS Orchestra during their annual POPS in the Park. As a pianist, Katie retains an active private studio teaching Elementary to High School pianists, beginning during her Undergraduate Degree in Piano Performance. The School of Music at Eastern Kentucky University offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs that are certified by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. EKU music students have the opportunity to study with a dedicated faculty of performing musicians and scholars. Main campus facilities include an excellent music technology lab with 24 iMac computer stations, recording and studio engineering software and equipment, a keyboard lab, an extensive music library, three concert halls, and numerous practice rooms. The School of Music presents over 100 concerts annually, including faculty concerts and recitals, ensemble performances, masterclasses, and performances and clinics by guest artists.
