Pak Navy in tension | Pakistan is currently in a state of alarm following India's announcement of joint military drills that will involve all three branches of its armed forces. Reports indicate that India has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) in the vicinity of the Sir Creek border area adjacent to Pakistan for these exercises. In response, Pakistan's Naval Chief, Naveed Ashraf, has inspected forward positions in the contested Sir Creek region along the India-Pakistan border. He emphasized that Pakistan is committed to safeguarding its maritime sovereignty from Sir Creek to Jiwani. During his visit, Admiral Ashraf revealed the addition of three Griffin 2400TD hovercrafts, which were acquired from the United Kingdom, to the Pakistan Navy. This hovercraft platform marks a crucial advancement in military modernization and offers a distinct operational edge. These hovercrafts are specifically engineered to function effectively across diverse and challenging landscapes, including shallow waters, sandy dunes, and marshy coastal areas, which are typical of the Sir Creek region. Here are some important points to note: Pakistan has announced a restriction on several air traffic routes over its central and southern airspace for October 28 and 29. India has issued a NOTAM for its forthcoming military exercise near Sir Creek, set to take place from October 30 to November 10. Pakistan is concerned that India may leverage this exercise to showcase capabilities that could pose a threat to critical sea-blocking points linked to Karachi and its coastal infrastructure. Approximately 70 percent of Pakistan's trade is routed through the Karachi and Bin Qasim ports. The Indian military exercise will engage the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
