Daniel Lanois is a Canadian record producer, guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. Whether crafting ambient records with Brian Eno, making rock and roll history with U2 and Peter Gabriel, digging into American roots with Bob Dylan and Emmylou Harris, scoring Oscar-winning films and blockbuster video games, or composing his own solo music, Lanois has always seemed to reinvent himself every three or four years with a chameleon- like ease. The April 2, 2021 released album "Heavy Sun" is the soulful, debut from Lanois and his invigorating new all-star band. Recorded in Los Angeles and Toronto, the album fuses classic gospel and modern electronics, mixing gritty, human textures with crisp, digital accents and lush, swirling atmospherics to create a sound that’s at once warmly familiar and boldly unexpected. • Listen to the new Daniel Lanois record: https://spoti.fi/3uSOSYr The arrangements here are spacious and dreamy, anchored by rich, righteous organ topped with airy falsetto and mesmerizing four-part harmony, and the writing is buoyant and soulful to match, tapping into the shared uncertainty of the human condition to offer hope, comfort, and connection at a time when all three run in desperately short supply. The communal spirit is on full display here, with Lanois and his bandmates—guitarist/vocalist Rocco DeLuca, organist/vocalist Johnny Shepherd, and bassist/vocalist Jim Wilson—showcasing an undeniable chemistry and boundless appetite for sonic discovery that far surpasses the influence of any individual member. While Lanois may be best known for his production work on era-defining albums like Joshua Tree, Wrecking Ball, and Time Out Of Mind, he actually grew up on organ records and gospel music, and he cut his teeth as a young man in the studio recording vocal quartets. In the decades to come, Lanois would go on to become one of the most acclaimed studio gurus of the modern era (Rolling Stone declared that his “unmistakable fingerprints are all over an entire wing of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”), as well as a prolific solo artist (NPR hailed his “brilliant albums of heartfelt songs”), but his love of soul and gospel music never left. • Watch the video of 'Power': • Daniel Lanois - Power [OFFICIAL VIDEO] • Watch the video of 'Way Down': • Daniel Lanois - Way Down [OFFICIAL VIDEO] • Listen to 'Dance On': • Dance On • Listen to 'Mother's Eyes': • Mother's Eyes In this video Daniel Lanois talks to 2 Meter Sessions host Jan Douwe Kroeske about the "Heavy Sun" album, Daniel's love for the organ, how to record vocal harmonies, working with Bob Dylan en U2 and more. • Subscribe to our Youtube-channel for more unique music sessions: https://bit.ly/2OX4S8t • Playlist with over 150 well-known 2 Meter Sessions clips since 1993: https://bit.ly/38fbO9I • Listen to 2 Meter Sessions on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/39vt6iS ===================== About 2 Meter Sessions ==================== Based in the Netherlands, 2 Meter Sessions is an independent, ongoing (new) music platform with a great legacy. Monthly we film 3 to 4 sessions with promising and breakthrough acts from all over the world. Many well-known acts have visited the show; from James Taylor, Elliott Smith and David Crosby to Damien Jurado, Ben Howard and Josh Ritter, via Radiohead, Nirvana, Coldplay and Foo Fighters. Archive footage can regularly be seen in (theatrical) documentary movies, like “Mystify: Michael Hutchence” (with footage of our session with INXS, filmed in 1997), “Heaven Adores You” (with footage of our session with Elliott Smith, filmed in 1998) and “All I Can Say” (with footage of our session with Blind Melon, filmed in 1993). The show started back in 1987 by radio presenter Jan Douwe Kroeske. On his popular national radio show he persuaded New-Zealand band Crowded House to play a couple of songs. The response of the public was so great, that 2 Meter Sessions quickly became a household name. In 1993, the show made a successful transition to national television. From there the show became a national phenomenon, for over 10 years, with filmed sessions of new talent, breakthrough acts and arrived career artists. Almost a million of 2 Meter Sessions cd’s were sold in the Netherlands. • Subscribe to our Youtube-channel for more unique music sessions: https://bit.ly/2OX4S8t • Playlist with over 150 well-known 2 Meter Sessions clips since 1993: https://bit.ly/38fbO9I • Listen to 2 Meter Sessions on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/39vt6iS • http://www.2metersessions.com • / 2metersessions • / 2metersessies === #daniellanois #bobdylan #u2
