Gabriela Ortiz writes: I have always wanted to pay tribute to those Spanish Republicans who arrived in Mexico at the end of the Spanish Civil War who arrived in Mexico and for different circumstances I had the privilege and opportunity to meet. Three of them left in me an indelible learning imprint not only for their contribution to the cultural, educational and scientific fields in our country, but above all because of the profoundly human aspect of their input. "El Maestro Pepe" (José de Tapia Bujalance) founded, together with his wife Graciela Gonzales, the elementary school "Manuel Bartolomé Cossío", where I studied. My first approaches to concepts such as democracy, justice, respect and discipline were due to him.I also thank him for having allowed me to be so happy learning during my first school years. Pepe's achievement is undoubtedly related to education by creating a school where children are happy, learn and grow with responsibility to be free citizens of the world.
