A road trip visiting the beautiful Sonoma County in California, including footage of a few notable, fun, and popular spots: Boon food+drink Restaurant in downtown Guerneville: great place to eat! We even got to dine out in the garden since it was COVID all their indoor dining is closed. Guerneville farmer's market on Thursday Stayed at a converted barn turned to Airbnb in Forestville Armstrong National Park for gorgeous redwoods hikes Goat Rock Beach in Jenner (the place part of the film "The Goonies" was filmed) Fishetarian Fish Market in Bodega Bay Kayaking in the Russian River off of Johnson's Beach in Guerneville Healdsburg Square and the downtown area About Johnson's Beach: A popular spot (though privately owned) to go camping, stay in a cabin or lodge, and hang out by the Russian River. You can rent a kayak and paddle along the water. The beach is located right off downtown Guerneville. During COVID, spots on the beach are reservation and are set up with over 6 feet of distance between guest spots. About boon eat + drink: The restaurant, according to themselves, is a "bustling farm-to-table California bistro in the heart of Guerneville founded by visionary Crista Luedtke". Sounds accurate to me! It's really honestly such a tasty place and one of the best-rated and most popular restaurants in the town. Crista is the chef/owner of boon eat + drink as well as two other spots in downtown called El Barrio and BROT. All are popular and well-rated. More info on her from the eatatboon website: "her endeavors began in April 2008 when she took ownership + renovated a struggling resort and opened a 14-room boutique hotel with a zen-like spa, known as boon hotel + spa." About Armstrong National Park (from Sonoma County's website): California's coast redwoods (sequoia sempervirens) are the world's tallest living things; the tallest tree was 379.3 feet. They're also among the planet's oldest living- surviving for 2,000+ years (average life span 500-700 years). About Bodega Bay: Bodega Bay is a popular sea-side town in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population is a few thousand, probably less than 2,000 residents! If you're looking for the best shrimp tacos: Fishetarian Fish Market in Bodega Bay, super tasty restaurant right off the highway, order ahead because the lines can get really long. Their shrimp taco is my favorite but I also recommend the fish tacos. I’ve also gotten their salad as well as their fish and chips which were good too but I think their shrimp tacos are the best. We wanted to go to Spud Point Crab Company in Bodega Bay, but the line had about 100 folks in the hot heat and dust so we decided to not wait. I heard great things about it and hope to go one day. It's a great place for sunset views as the rocky cliffs look out to the western Pacific Ocean waters. Healdsburg Square: Gorgeous little park in downtown Healdsburg surrounded by many restaurants of many different cuisines from French, Mexican, Italian, Thai, and more. There are quite a tasting spots for those who would like to try the famous Sonoma wineries and farm-to-table dining. Highly recommend going to take a walk around there and sampling some different foods and drinks. More info about Sonoma County from Google: Sonoma County is in Northern California. It's known for the Sonoma Valley wine region, as well as other notable winemaking areas such as the Dry Creek and Alexander valleys. Land Area: 1,768 mi² Population: 494,336 (2019) About this video and trip: This video was recorded during a time we were allowed to go out, before Shelter in Place in California. We wore masks when outside and were never in contact w/ anyone who was sick. We chose to go to Guerneville because it's a really cute, lovely, and progressive town in the mountains. It's super LGBT-friendly and known to be a popular getaway spot for gay men (and lesbians) in San Francisco. As a queer travel destination, we saw rainbow pride flags that signaled how LGBTQ folks are likely around and even trans acceptance messages- lovely! We even saw Black Lives Matter signs and memorials for Breonna Taylor RIP. Bonus: We stopped by the little town of Occidental and admired their cute downtown area with quaint and classic saloon-style buildings. They have a lot of cute, bohemian shops and the census-designated place is surrounded by gorgeous and regal redwoods. We stopped by to see Boon hotel (though we did not stay there because it was too expensive, lol), and we saw their little garden and chicken coop outside. We toured downtown Forestville and show a gorgeous sunset we saw, we walked the West Country trail and got coffee at the Sunshine Organic Coffee Roasters on Front Street. They're a cute, small takeout place for small batch, organic coffee. The city is originally named Forrestville after one of its founders, but the name was then shortened to having only one "r" to be in line with the spelling of forest.
