Ukrainian Conceptual Photography Festival "REFRACTION 2025" / 📸🇺🇦 Art Space of the Odessa Regional Universal Scientific Library named after M. S. Hrushevsky, Troitska, 49/51, Odesa, Ukraine, the exhibition is open: May 03 - 17, 2025 What does a mirror see when it looks at you? "REFRACTION" (refraction) is not just a physical process of changing the direction of light. It is a metaphor for how our perception of ourselves changes under the influence of time, experience and circumstances. We are reflected in other people's views, social roles, forced choices. But do we remain ourselves? Refraction is not destruction, but transformation. When light passes through glass or water, it changes shape, creating new contours, double reflections, illusions. So is a person: experiencing changes, he can lose integrity, become unrecognizable even to himself. Or maybe it becomes different - more creative, more confident in one's abilities, more holistic. Main themes of the festival: 🔹 How does the inner "I" change under the influence of the environment? 🔹 Which facets of personality become visible, and which disappear? 🔹 How are images of the past refracted in the present? 🔹 Where is the line between reality and its distorted reflection? Founders and curators of the project: Maya Makeeva, photographer, author of performances, Odesa, Ukraine; Valery Leshchynsky, Creative/Art Director Kyivphotos-Hall 2012.
