HON’BLE MINISTER SAKEENA ITOO INAUGURATES TWO-DAY ANNUAL SPORTS MEET AT GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE SRINAGAR SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 10: Hon’ble Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo inaugurated the two-day Annual Sports Meet 2025 of Government Medical College Srinagar at the Boys Hostel ground, Bemina. Addressing the gathering, the Minister emphasized the close connection between the physical and mental well-being of healthcare professionals and the quality of healthcare services they deliver. “Our doctors and medical students are the backbone of the healthcare system. Their physical fitness and emotional balance directly influence the care they provide. Events like this help them refresh their minds and build a sense of teamwork,” she said. The Minister appreciated GMC Srinagar for organizing the event and stressed that sports and recreational activities are essential for stress management in medical institutions. She advised the college administration to upgrade playground facilities to encourage greater participation in extracurricular activities. Principal/ Dean, Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan, expressed gratitude to the Minister for her consistent support. She said that sports build confidence, balance, and focus among students and faculty. She commended the organizing committee for its planning and teamwork. Chairman Sports Committee, Prof. Dr. Salim Iqbal, played a central role in coordinating and executing the event. Under his leadership, the Sports Committee of the CASS Union organized the meet in line with NMC guidelines. The two-day event features a range of activities including cricket, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, carrom, tug of war, and musical chair. Track and field events include 100m, 200m, 400m, relay, shot put, javelin throw, and discus throw. Fun games like matka race, sack race, and spoon and egg race add excitement and encourage participation from all sections. Students, faculty, and staff took part in large numbers and enjoyed the competitions with enthusiasm. The events created a lively atmosphere and strengthened the bond between teachers and students. The second day will feature the final rounds and a prize distribution ceremony, marking the conclusion of the Annual Sports Meet 2025. The event was attended by Principal and Dean Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan, Administrator GMC Srinagar Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Heads of Departments, Medical Superintendents, faculty members, students, and staff.
