Brenda Portman: Fanfare for the Nations (trumpet/organ)

Fanfare for the Nations is a work for trumpet and organ composed for the Great Lakes Duo: Brian Reichenbach and Rhonda Sider Edgington. It was commissioned by Timothy Pennings in honor of Gordon Van Wylen (1920-2020), who impacted the world through his careers in the United States Navy, University of Michigan, Hope College, and Holland, Michigan. Mr. Pennings requested that two hymn tunes be quoted in the piece: MELITA (the naval hymn), and KREMSER, because of its Dutch origin. This piece was premiered on Oct. 5, 2021 at the University of Michigan fall organ conference.
