This video is about doing an automatic transmission fluid (ATF) change via the pan drop method for the 4T40E transaxle (aka transmission) in a Chevy Cavalier. Filter replacement procedure and pan magnet TSB check is also covered. Vehicle illustrated is a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier and would view the same for the Pontiac Sunfire of 2003 thru 2005, but any GM vehicle with the 4T40 or 4T45 automatic transaxle (these units are often called transmissions incorrectly but we will use both terms interchangeably to avoid confusion) model thru 2010 such as the Chevy Cobalt would be applicable and extremely similar procedure and same GM parts for filter, gasket and pan magnets. You can determine if you have either the 4T40E transmission or the 4T45E transmission (again aka transaxle) by looking at the service parts identification sticker in the glove box, or trunk cardboard cover, depending on the vehicle model. The three digit regular production option (RPO) codes on the sticker covered by this video are MN4 (4T40E) and MN5 (4T45E). This procedure will be similar for any GM vehicles with these same drivetrains from 1995 thru 2010. The automatic transmission fluid (ATF) for these models would be GMs DEXRON VI only. Your owners manual may specify a different roman numeral (e.g., III) but all have been superseded now by DEXRON VI.
