In this episode: • Actor Rupert Graves reports from a favourite childhood haunt: Birnbeck Pier in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, UK, the work of the Victorian pier designer Eugenius Birch, now derelict, badly damaged and under threat. • Kirsty Wark investigates the vast memorial to the Duke of Sutherland at Golspie in the Scottish Highlands, a grim reminder of the Highland clearances of the 19th century, in which he took part. Plans to have the statue moved and replaced by a Celtic cross, as a memorial to those who suffered in the clearances, have caused great controversy. • Ruin of the Week: the 1930s India of Inchinnan Tyre Factory, Renfrewshire, Scotland. • For the first time in the UK, post-WWII council housing could become listed as heritage.
