Our tūpuna Māori adored their pēpi and tamariki and had lots of ways of showing it, including many beautiful waiata oriori. === Tūpuna Parenting is a movement to promote the gentle, respectful and loving parenting ways of tūpuna Māori. Our tūpuna believed pēpi were born tapu (sacred) so were to be protected, and born with mana so were to be respected. Before the Europeans arrived, our tūpuna didn’t smack or yell at their tamariki, didn’t want their pēpi to cry for any reason, and listened to and respected the kōrero of their tamariki, even in large hui. This is what we need to remember. This is what Tūpuna Parenting is all about. Nā ngā ringa aroha, nā te ngākau atawhai, ka ora ai te whānau. From loving hands, from a gentle heart, comes life for the whānau. ❤️ Website http://www.tupunaparenting.maori.nz ❤️ Subscribe http://eepurl.com/hLr2PH ❤️ FB / tupunaparenting ❤️ Instagram / tupunaparenting Tūpuna Parenting was started by cousins Elizabeth Emere Harte (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou) and Dr Hirini Kaa (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu). The matauranga underpinning the kaupapa is from their whānau stories, waiata oriori (traditional lullabies), pūrākau (oral histories) and early explorer accounts. Elizabeth is a māmā to three young tamariki, and knows how hard this parenting stuff is. She is also applying her years of experience in user experience, designing for customers and strategy planning to support steering this work where it needs to go to be impactful and successful. Hirini is a historian, an Anglican minister and author of an award-winning book, Te Hāhi Mihinare. Find out how you or your organisation can join our movement - info@pepipenapena.co.nz Mauri ora!
