Woodturning - Fantastic Floating Angelique Vase

For this woodturning project, I thought I’d try something totally unique. I’m sure other people have done this, but I haven’t seen it, so who knows…maybe I just came up with something! Either way, the concept is pretty simple: cut some groove to use to put in some inserts that keep the top part of the vase “floating”above the bottom part. I was pretty nervous that the whole thing would fly apart, but nice smooth passes did the trick and it all held together. The wood is Angelique, which comes from South America. It’s a pretty hard wood that acts a lot like mahogany. Not super fun to turn because it just produces dues rather than curls, but it does have a nice grain. The inserts are Ambrosia Maple.
