Stop Wasting Time! | Seneca “On the Shortness of Life”

In his letter, “On the Shortness of Life”, Seneca reflects on his older years and how they seem to be flying by at a faster rate. This observation causes him to critique those who are still in their youngers years who waste them doing “superfluous” things. In the letter, these superfluous things include lyrical poetry and doing dialectics which probably isn’t super relevant today. A modern day example of a “superfluous thing” might be extensive phone use. Seneca then tells a metaphor of being in a castle that’s under attack and all the citizens preparing for that siege. Admittedly, it’d be foolish not to prepare for that attack and goof around.
