It's #backtoschool time of the year, and must it always be? Is the pressure going up or down? Education is personal, and the decision to homeschool is a big one. What are the benefits, challenges, and realities? Join us this #PowerMonday as Liz Gitonga, a Homeschooling Pioneer in Kenya, shares her invaluable insights and experience. Let’s explore if homeschooling could be the right fit for your family. Liz Gitonga is a trained teacher and has more than 30 years of teaching and curriculum development experience, at various levels of education from early years through to university. She and her husband begun #home-schooling about 25 years ago, becoming one of the pioneer Kenyan homeschool families. Liz has a great passion for education and describes her homeschooling journey as one that has been pivotal in shaping her views on education. The understanding that education is a powerful tool that shapes the hearts and minds of the learners ultimately forming the culture of the society, led her to establish Veritas Education Africa. Veritas works to equip homeschool parents and schools with knowledge, tools, and resources for an excellent education. Liz serves in the steering committee of both the East Africa Community of Homeschoolers (EACH) and of the Africa Home Education Exchange. She is an advisory board member of the Global Home Education Exchange and also serves in the Global executive committee of the Third Education Revolution. Liz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Education Psychology from Kenyatta University. She and her husband live in Nairobi, Kenya and are blessed with 3 children now 27, 22 and 19 years old, all of whom were homeschooled from preschool through to high school. Liz has spoken both nationally and internationally on various platforms. Her favourite topics are #homeschooling, education, family, parenting and womanhood.
