Amazon workers as part of a national unfair labor practice strike went out in December for three days at warehouses around the country. Although workers have voted to join the AWU IBT, the company is continuing to refuse to negotiate a contract which is illegal under the NLRB rules. At San Francisco Amazon DCK6 strike action, an IBT Amazon worker from Skokie, Illinois DIL7 talked about why he supported the union and demands of their strike. Joe Cilia, IBT 2785 Financial Secretary Treasurer also talked about the issues and conditions of Amazon workers and the conditions of unionized UPS workers which his local represents. Many Amazon workers only make $21 an hour and have limited hours forcing them to work two and three jobs. Cilia reported that workers after driving for Amazon cannot afford a car to return to their homes. The area also has a large number of campers that surround the Amazon warehouse because workers cannot afford a home in the city.
