For scorching sunshine then July and August are your months. The "sweet spot" of April-June and September-October offers pleasant temperatures ideal for wandering, fewer crowds, shorter queues. If you're on a tighter budget or crave tranquility, November-March offers the lowest prices and fewest tourists. A great free thing to do is take a walk up the very famous Street of the Knights. Quick tip though…it gets very busy to get there very early. Try something local and even unique to the island. Two I recommend are Pitaroudia: Fritters made from chickpeas, tomatoes, onions, mint, and spices, fried until golden and crispy. Or, Lakani: Either goat or lamb, slow-cooked with chickpeas, wheat, tomatoes, onions, and cumin. For those with a sweet tooth, then Takakia: Fried pastries filled with ground nuts, sesame seeds, and spices, then drizzled with honey.
