MPTP Hydrochloride: A Tool for Parkinson's Disease Research | GlpBio

MPTP hydrochloride, also known as 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine hydrochloride, is a chemical compound that has been extensively studied in the field of neuroscience and neuropharmacology. MPTP hydrochloride is known for its ability to induce Parkinson's disease-like symptoms in animal models and has provided valuable insights into the understanding of the neurobiology of Parkinson's disease. MPTP hydrochloride itself is not inherently toxic. Researchers can administer MPTP hydrochloride to animals, typically mice or primates, and observe the resulting motor deficits and neurodegeneration. MPTP hydrochloride has also been used to develop animal models that mimic specific aspects of Parkinson's disease.
