Our annual Christmas tree planting event is the biggest event of the year for our fantastic Fylde Sand Dunes Project. We invite people to drop off their real Christmas trees at collection points along the Fylde Coast, then we take the trees down to North Beach, where they're buried in the sand to form brand new dunes! Creating new sand dunes isn't just a way to restore wildlife habitat along the Fylde coast, but protect residents from the threat of flooding. Not only do dunes absorb the energy of the sea during storms and act as a buffer against the wind, but they also act as a natural barrier to the sea at high tide and release sand during storms to ease wave action, reducing the risk of flooding.
