The one year anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait. The Kuwaitis call this "Liberation Day." President Bush called for an end to the sale of weapons into the Middle East, but now the competition to sell arms to the Middle East is big. The lesson learned from the war by nations in the region was that they needed newer and better weapons. Syria is trying to ad longer range missiles and new tanks. Iran is trying to buy submarines and missiles. The biggest purchaser in the region though is Saudi Arabia, and the Largest weapons supplier is the United States. The perceived success of US weapons in the war and the collapse of the Soviet Union has combined to make the US the largest weapons supplier in the world. The US had made repeated efforts to kill Saddam Hussein, but none were successful as Saddam hid in private homes and well-populated neighborhoods.
