Press Release: BDS PRODUCTIONS JACOB KERSEY INTERVIEW TO BE FEATURED ON ALG GOSPEL NETWORK BDS Productions of Chapman interviewed Georgia Police Officer Jacob Kersey and attorney Christine Pratt of First Liberty Institute on February 22nd. The recorded interview is scheduled to air Saturday night, March 4th at 7:30 p.m. on ALG Gospel Network. Jacob Kersey was a police officer in Port Wentworth, Georgia when he was forced to resign after he was told he could not share his religious beliefs on his personal social media account. 19-year-old Jacob began working for the police department last May. He was excited to be an officer and serve the town of 12,000 near Savannah. He said everything was going well until he posted a brief message on Facebook. “God designed marriage. Marriage refers to Christ and the church. That is why there is no such thing as homosexual marriage.” The following day Jacob’s supervisor called ordering him to take down the post saying he could not post things like that and that his free speech was limited due to his position as a police officer. However, Jacob took a stand; determined not to compromise his faith, Jacob chose to exercise his First Amendment Right by leaving the Biblical definition of marriage on his personal social media page. Jacob Kersey stated, “The reality is if you are a person of faith, you have three options, you can either be complicit, complacent or courageous. I really hope that we will have more courageous individuals who will stand up because at the end of the day it’s your First Amendment Right to speak your religion and as I said earlier if you can’t speak your religion then you don’t have religious freedom. We need more courageous individuals to stand up for the First Amendment. First Liberty attorneys sent a letter to the Port Wentworth Police Department explaining that officials blatantly discriminated against Jacob: that “The Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment protects Mr. Kersey’s right to express his Christian beliefs in his personal life and discuss his faith while off duty… The Free Exercise Clause does not permit the State to confine religious speech to whispers or banish it to broom closets. If it did, the exercise of one’s religious would not be free at all…” Doug Thompson of BDS Productions stated, “I first saw Jacob on a Fox News program and thought, that young many is very well spoken and articulate. We should contact him for an interview. The next day, I had my staff research his contact information and we sent out an invitation to do an interview for the BDS Productions series, “Stories That Matter”. Within a few days we had a response and scheduled the interview. I’ll have to admit I was very impressed with both Jacob and First Liberty attorney, Christine Pratt.” Stories That Matter with Jacob Kersey and Christine Pratt will air Saturday night, March 4th at 7:30 p.m. on ALG Gospel Network available on ROKU or at www.ALG.rocks or can be accessed after March 4th on the BDS Productions Entertainment YouTube channel.
