Among them is Hong Kong-based Sitara, who’s a member of the Hazara minority in Ghazni province and studying in the city since 2018. Sitara returned from visiting family in Afghanistan just days before the capital Kabul fell to the Taliban. The university student says she’s highly sceptical about Taliban promises to allow Afghan women to continue working and studying, and fears for the safety of her family and her country’s future.
