Railfanning in the Galesburg, IL area (1/4): Peck Park action with BNSF Geometry train 09/07/19

Finally after nearly two years I was able to go back to Galesburg, IL which is a huge hub for the BNSF Railway. I first saw the eastbound Amtrak Illinois Zephyr just northeast of town before getting to Peck Park where everything else I saw in this portion was filmed. Peck park provides a great vantage point of where the BNSF Chillicothe sub (former Santa Fe) passes underneath the BNSF Mendota sub and the BNSF Barstow sub. The Barstow sub splits off the Mendota sub and heads north (west) towards Savanna where it meets the BNSF Aurora sub allowing trains going to and from the Dakotas and Minnesota to avoid Chicago. The BNSF Mendota sub veers right and heads northeast towards Chicago and the BNSF Chillicothe sub heads east towards Chicago and west towards Kansas City and Los Angeles. The Chillicothe sub sees the most traffic being mainly intermodal and vehicle traffic with some manifests and unit trains, with the Mendota sub seeing mainly coal grain, manifests as well as Chicago Amtrak traffic, and the Barstow sees a variety. This was filmed over four hours with plenty of intermodal traffic including a NS powered stack train, and manifest traffic on the two other lines overhead. A geometry train passed by on the BNSF Chillicothe sub.
