When sizing an inverter, there are three main criteria. The nominal power of the inverter should be in the same range as the nominal power of the PV modules. However, there is also a system-specific factor, which can make the optimum inverter power somewhat larger or smaller. The maximum input voltage of the inverter is also important for safe operation. Exceeding it can lead to the destruction of the inverter. The decisive factor for the maximum input voltage is the open circuit voltage at the lowest temperature to be expected. Lastly, it is important to ensure that the minimum MPP voltage of the inverter is higher than the lowest expected MPP voltage of the PV generator.
