What happens when you buy a camper from 1986? Insanity. #camperlife I may be insane now I come to think about it because, I bought this camper and now realise that it needs a lot of work on it to bring it up to standard. Previously I have done work on the engine to allow me to drive it, because it was misfiring and not starting and overheating. All that aside, I noticed a small leak inside the romahome which was dripping onto the breakfast table inside from the roof vent. This proved to be a nightmare, but it also appears to have been something that has been present for a long period of time. It was previously stored in a warehouse for 5 years before I bought it, so I wasn't aware and neither was the previous owner of any leaks anywhere on the vehicle. Well I have found 1 or maybe 4.. Both of the roof vents leak and both of the windows leak also. When I decided to remove the partition above the cab area where the audio system was housed, I noiced that everything felt wet. When I pulled it out I noticed that everything was damp, so I started pulling back the carpeting surrounding the windows and walls, and I could see mould, damp and warping of the boards. I knew at that moment, that I was going to have to start pulling out more than I wanted to. With every piece I removed, it got worse, until I had pulled all of the fabric off from the walls and ceiling area, virtually all of the ply board used was rotten and warped, so the next thing was to pull all that out too and see what was waiting underneath all of that. I can now see clearly why the roof vents are leaking, they have been poorly fitted, cracked and they are old and pporly maintained. The next thing is for them to come out. I also noticed how bad the seals around the windows are. I already thought that the windows were bad, as they don't open and they are perspex. they don't hold any heat at all and in the summer they just get super hot and there is nowhere for the heat to go. So i knew these had to be changed anyway, but I just didn't realise the scale of how bad all of these areas were. I was going to wait and use the vehicle into the spring/summer and enjoy it as I don't really have the money to be fixing all of these issues at this moment in time. But now I have started it, I have to finish it, with everything out, I can now see and fully appreciate the space I have to work with and it should come out in the end absolutely amazing when I get and fit all of the parts. All of these wil be videos of course and you can come along as I share my journey! This video is part of a series, check out the rest of videos on my Bedford Rascal campervan here: • Camper Life
