Are the lowest budget anamorphic adapters actually cinematic? Depending on your perspective, I would say yes! and in this video I break down why an anamorphic wide screen image, even from a cheap adapter, can convey a more cinematic image. Of course, this budget adapter meant for phones cannot compete with the tens of thousands of dollar lenses used in Hollywood, but for the price and used in the right ways it can give you some surprisingly great results that can be cut in to other anamorphic footage, and there are also some creative use cases for this adapter like as a budget mesmerizer! Note I made a mistake when talking about the modified lens, in the video I said it can clear 12mm but showed footage from the 14-42 and labeled it 12-42. I will try to get more test footage to show the capabilities of the modified lens in the near future, and apologize for the error. Lenses I have tested with the moondog labs 1.33x anamorphic adapter -panasonic 14mm f/2.5 clears on the GH5 without stabilization, with stabilization or on the bmpcc4k you get vingietting -panasonic 14-42 can clear with a modified lens, unmodified the wide end vignettes heavily but further down the zoom range it clears up well. panasonic 12-32 can clear with a modified lens, unmodified the wide end vignettes heavily but further down the zoom range it clears up well. -olympus 17mm f/2.8 clears on all cameras I have tested TTartisan 23mm f/1.4 clears on MFT cameras ------------------------- 00:00-00:24 into to aspect ratios in video 00:25-01:12 widescreen cinematic video using anamorphic adapters 01:13-01:46 Moondog labs anamorphic adapter example footage on phones 01:46-02:41 Picking the best phone anamorphic adapter 02:41-03:30 Using the moondog labs anamorphic adapter on mirrorless cameras 03:30-04:15 Taking lens and camera selection 04:15-04:27 Anamorphic bokeh with the moondog labs adapter 04:27-05:11 Wide angle anamorphic capabilities 05:11-05:22 Modifying the moondog labs 1.33x anamorphic adapter 05:22-06:05 Using the moondog labs anamorphic adapter in place of high end anamorphics 06:05-06:29 Moondog labs anamorphic flares and pairing with other anamorphic lenses 06:29-06:56 Small anamorphic lens in use 06:56-07:15 Using the moondog labs lens on a B cam 07:15-07:53 Comparing the moondog labs to other budget anamorphic lenses 07:53-08:49 Using the moondog labs anamorphic adapter as a budget mesmerizer lens 08:49-09:24 Anamorphic lenses don't necessarily make an image more cinematic 09:24-10:55 Visual language of anamorphics over time 10:55-12:03 A means to an end; cell phone adapters and rear anamorphic adapters 12:03-12:57 Conclusion
