0:00 - Intro 1:10 - Mini puzzle 2:02 - Daily puzzle (by Jake Halperin) 7:01 - Commentary New York Times Crossword, Thursday 2/24/22 Feels like the fourth Wednesday puzzle this week, since there wasn't really much of a trick here. I do think that crossword solvers are inclined to enjoy word-nerdiness, and this one has a fun sort of "huh, interesting" quality to it. I think CAPITAL 'S' SIN is the least interesting one, since the CAPITAL 'S' in Sloth isn't really intrinsic to the word, it just depends on how you type it. I couldn't come up with any interesting SOFT or SHORT examples of the correct length on OneLook though, so maybe it's tough to find themers here. We also have a very related and quite technical VELARS in teh grid. Needed all the crosses on that. Never heard the term BEGATHON but I like it, as well as SHAKYCAM. Not as thrilled about ISTO, SADD, ATTEN, and ONTOE, but a little glue is necessary to hold a puzzle together I guess. I think the cluing was good Thursday level, but because the theme wasn't too tricky, managed a pretty quick time. 17s on the Mini and 4m58s on the daily puzzle.
