This talk is a powerful reflection on humanity’s complicated relationship with nature—and the hidden cost of calling destruction “development.” Beginning with a simple, symbolic object, the speaker takes the audience on a journey from personal awakening to global environmental urgency. Through stories of lost forests, displaced communities, and fragile ecosystems, the talk challenges the idea that progress must come at the expense of life. Blending science, storytelling, and quiet moral clarity, it invites viewers to rethink responsibility—not as activism alone, but as a shared human duty to stand between what is vulnerable and what threatens it. Bharti Sharma is an environmentalist, social entrepreneur, and researcher dedicated to sustainability and innovation. She founded Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam PURA, a social enterprise inspired by Dr. Kalam’s vision of bridging the urban–rural divide through community-driven growth. An IIM Bangalore MBA and PGIMER medalist physiotherapist, Bharti also founded Wellness India, a holistic health platform. Currently AVP (Business Strategy) at State Bank of India, she partners with Bajaj Finserv, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Funds, and Creso Wealth Management. A SEBI-certified mutual fund distributor and Six Sigma professional, her research spans sustainable mobility, BRSR, and AI cognition theories. She launched Kolloquial, a regional language app, in 2024 and is pursuing Justice under Prof. Michael Sandel at Harvard University. A chess lover, classical dancer, and proud tree hugger, Bharti embodies balance between intellect, innovation, and empathy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
