Noise Factory - Futuroid

Update *June 2021* Official reissue & digital release available here! https://kemetmusic.bandcamp.com/album... Destined to be largely overshadowed by its 'dub' mix on the other side, "Futuroid" was initially perceived and intended as the lead track on this classic 12" release from Sept 1992. http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/3r... Setting the tone for the rest of the EP, "Futuroid" was like nothing else heard in the developing hardcore scene before. Its main characteristics, of heavy bassline and reggae influences that drew from the already existing 'hardcore junglist' trend, were not necessarily new but its tempo of over 170bpm was a clear attempt to push the music form into uncharted waters. Hardcore had never been quite as 'ruff & ready' as this track was before. With its unique use of the 'Amen Brother' break taking the inner 10 - 14 beat segment of the 4 bar break it created a whole new canter that would be copied repeatedly by jungle and drum & bass to this very day. "Futuroid" drew a clear line in the sand that the music was no longer just for happy ravers in the field but for the inner city youth of council blocks & estates also. All 4 tracks shared this break-neck pace and required for the most part to be pitched down to -8% to be blended with other records! The litmus test of this EP actually resulted in the other tracks, "Survival" & "Staright From The Bedroom" being favoured by the pirates of London at the time, however with the gradual increase in tempo "Futuroid" was to enjoy somewhat of a renaissance in 1993. Nevertheless, all in all it was 'dub' mix "Breakage #4" that would be remembered as the star track of this release, and as such has enjoyed a number of remixes over the years.
