Here is my first attempt at an indoor Aquaponics garden using my family's pet turtles as the source of nutrition for the plants. UPDATE: Project scrapped because grow bed was too small, going to larger grow bed after summer months when turtles move back indoors for the cold months. Oh, and because people don't know how to mind their own business and assume they know everything, here's really everything you need to know about the turtles living conditions, even though it's none of your business: Not my turtles, I'm just helping the owner because I felt bad for him and the turtles, I did my research, they get plenty of OUTDOOR SUNLIGHT, not just indoors, they also occasionally walk around the house, no need for filter with grow bed (that was kind of the point of making it), water is changed often and was due for a change in this video, and even with it looking dirty, ammonia was within safe levels. And since beginning of April, they've been moved outside again for the summer months. Now stop complaining about the turtles and go learn about Aquaponics. Aquaponics is the marriage of two industries: Aquaculture, raising fish in farms, and Hydropnics, growing food in soilless growing mediums and water. Alone, each industry creates massive amounts of waste, whether the excrement of the fish, or the water for gardening, with Aquaponics, waste for one is food for the other, creating a closed loop, just like nature intended!
