Longport is situated on the line between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent and sees services operated by East Midlands Railway between Derby and Crewe on a almost hourly basis throughout the day in either direction, with some additional services provided by Northen Rail in peak times with services between Manchester Piccadilly and Stoke-on-Trent. These services are formed of either Class 153 or Class 156 units however from December 2020 Class 170's are planned to operate down here instead of these units. A lot of services pass through here as its a route from Manchester down onto the West Coast Mainline via Macclesfield. Freight on this line is limited with it being mostly Locomotive moves between Derby and the North of England.
