From there, we step straight into the festive heart of the city, where Christmas markets take over the centre and every street feels louder, brighter, and busier than the last. We chase the glow past the Christmas market at St. Stephen’s Basilica, move through the bustle of Városháza Park (complete with its winter ice rink), and follow the trail of lights toward the Budapest Eye — the Big Wheel guiding our path forward. That leads us into the shine and swagger of Fashion Street, a boulevard transformed for the season, before the flow pushes us into the festive pulse of Vörösmarty Square, where the crowds swell and the city feels alive in every direction. And when the noise peaks, we do what we always do: we step away from it. We turn down toward the river for evening calm — where Budapest slows down, spreads out, and gives you room to breathe. Walking along the Danube, we pass St. Anne’s Church (Szent Anna-templom) — the oldest church in Budapest — a quiet and sacred contrast to the chaos behind us.
