SANTORINI CALDERA a LIVE VOLCANO in GREEK PARADISE! BOAT TOUR! In this video we explore the Santorini Caldera up close. We leave the main island of Santorini on a boat to get a closer look at the famous live volcano that still remains at the centre of the Santorini Caldera. The island called Nea Kameni (Young burnt island) is uninhabited and is made entirely from lava, it is possible to walk around the circumference of the volcano crater whilst seeing the hot sulphuric smoke pour out as you go around. It’s ok scientists are keeping a close eye on it so it’s safe - for now. There are 5 islands in total in the flooded Santorini Caldera including the mainland island of Santorini, Nea Kameni, Palea Kameni, Aspronisi and Therasia. After exploring the live volcano we take a dip in the hot springs that are heated naturally by the volcano before jumping back on the boat and heading over for lunch in Therasia. Other than the main island of Santorini, Therasia is the only island in the Santorini Caldera that is inhabited, it has a population of around 300 people, the island lies North West of Nea Kameni. We make our way back to the main island of Santorini and begin our ascent up the many steep steps in Thera (Donkey rides and cable cars are available for those who don’t want to walk it) we made it to the top but not before almost getting pee’d on by the donkeys!
