Reynard stands accused, speaks in his own defense with measured wit and open defiance, and is answered not by mercy, but by law. Two voices emerge from a single performer: Reynard: Mid-range, articulate, rhetorically agile, pressing language to its limits; King Noble: Low, cold, judicial, his restraint slowly tightening as Reynard tests the authority of crown and court. As witnesses are named and testimony settles, wit loses its power to turn the scale. What began as argument becomes record and sentence.
